Bongani Cashibe, former Orlando Pirates defender was one of the masters who featured in the masters game in Rustenburg at the Moruleng stadium in the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup curtain raisers.
The player who once donned the famous black and white of Orlando Pirates was part of the Bokone Bophirima masters who won the match ahead of the main event.
He is known for his attributes at the Bucs defense and had a good first season at Pirates until an injury struck and was out on the bench or out to the stands.
He played 18 games for the Mighty Ghost , 11 full games , two 80 minutes substitutes and came in as a sub in 4 matches for the club.
He looked sharp in the game and showed brilliance every time he had the ball.
His runs were incredible and the player still has what it takes to play football and contribute to the game of billions football.
He is aiming to attract at least an NFD team and would jump to the opportunity if given.
The former Pirates stalwart expressed the joy of being part of the Maize Cup and his happiness to be amongst players who hails from the North West province.
He applauded the MEC of North West along with the Platinum Stars management for such an incredible initiative like the Maize Cup.
He hopes that the MEC and Stars as the host will need to take the initiative countrywide and take it to greater heights.
He furthermore expressed that his main concern was that the tournament is not well marketed in all the four regions of the province.
” I would like to see this tournament grow and people of Bokone Bophirima benefit from this tournament”, he said
Bongani also stated that the game tempo only picked up towards the end of the match but was jubilant to see Pirates win the match and applauded the team for creating chances but Stars keeper kept them at bay.
He believes that Muhsin Ertugral will have a good season and he has players that can do the job.
On Platinum Stars, he expressed that he was happy with the young players who were introduced by Cavin Johnson and that he hopes that they keep the momentum as they finished third last season.
