Cape Town City are showing signs of seeking dominance in the PSL and have started the 2017/2018 on a high note with convincing wins.

The departure of Eric Tinkler to SuperSport United had left the club wondering as to who will take the hot at City. Having done a good job under Tinkler and qualifying for the top 8 in their first season meant the club means business and business it was when the club unveiled South African Golden Boy Benni McCarthy as their new head coach.

Benni took charges at Citizens and lost a few players to other PSL clubs but made quite impressive ones as well. The club signed Ayanda Patosi, and brought in former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star Teko Modise to Cape Town.

His first match was an MTN8 quarter final and the former deadly striker made an impression as he won the match 1-0. A week later he had his first PSL match against defending champions away and surprised the current PSL champions with a 1-0 win. Just when everyone was watching the played at home against Platinum Stars and won at home with Teko and Patosi on the score sheet. Five days later Benni had to face MTN8 current champions in the first leg of the prestigious tournament and an early goal by new club signee Ayanda Patosi shocked the current PSL and MTN8 champions BidVest Wits twice in a row.

Players like club captain Lebogang Manyama, Saib Walters, Robin Johaness have expressed what an honour it is to play under such an incredible coach who has so much to offer to South African football after the striker had achieved so much in Europe.

Will this be the Benni McCarthy season as he cements his place amongst top coaches in South Africa?
