South African ladies football team coach Vera Pauw along with her technical team trimmed their camping squad to 29 players for the Olympic squad soon to be named when the trimming is completed. The coach has until July 2014 to hand in her final squad to the Olympic Committee. The number of players to be selected ultimately will be 22 as per regulations of Olympics Committee.

Five players have been notified by SAFA that they will no longer be part of the Banyana Banyana training camp that is preparing for the RIO 2016 Olympics games to be held in Brazil in August. Among the players who were unfortunate are experienced player Andisiwe Mgcoyi who was part of the national team set up that competed at the 2012 edition of the Olympics. The other players who didn’t make it and notified are Letago Madiba, Jabulile Mazibuko , Mpho Tefo and Yolula Tsawe.

The national team coach stated “ It is any coach’s worst time when it comes to trimming their squad and unfortunately it is something that has to be done. She also expressed that it is not an easy thing to actually kill some of the players dreams as they looked forward to the Olympics.

Furthermore she stated that it was a difficult task to do when the decision was made as some of the players are experienced but encouraged the players to keep working  hard as they might be called up in case of emergencies.
