Legends Corner : Aubrey “Sense of Knowledge” Lekoane on the Maize Cup

Former Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows dribbling wizard Aubrey Lekoane who hails from the Bokone Bophirima province featured in the masters game that had the crowd entertained before the main event between Platinum Stars who hosted his former club Orlando Pirates in the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup on 13/08/2016.

The midfield legend dazzled the crowd with his skills every time he had the ball in his feet. He reminded those who know of his skills with a slow pace who he is and those who didn’t have the opportunity to see him then kept raving about his skills on the ball.

He stated that the likes of Fabian McCathy, Lucas Tlhomelang, Bricks Mudau, Jacob Tshisevhe, Lovers Mohlala, Bongani Cashibe, Thabiso Rammile and more who featured in the game should be roped in as ambassadors in the future. They need to conduct more coaching clinics to market the event and believes there’s talent in Rustenburg.

The tall length, slow paced midfield maestro in his hey days went on to play for the Buccaneers. He went on to play for Moroka Swallows and will be remembered for his performance against Mamelodi Sundowns in a game which he tormented Sundowns defenders and scored a goal that resulted in then Sundowns coach Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala to collapse. The player also had a stint at Amazulu.

The former darling of Pirates expressed that the Maize Cup is a good initiative and people from and around Rustenburg should come in numbers to support this event that was in its second year. He furthermore expressed that the tourney should be taken back to its original format of four teams to attract more sponsorship and crowd.

He applauded the MEC of Bokone Bophirima and Platinum Stars for the event. He stated that the future looks bright for Platinum Stars and they should introduce more youngsters from around the province that will represent the province in the PSL.
