Amakhosi share spoils with Dikwena


Kaizer Chiefs played to a one all draw against Platinum Stars in their second game of the season. The thrilling encounter saw Chiefs failing to register a win after tw games.

Kaizer Chiefs started well pushing forward with Hendricks Ekstein and were the first to attempt with Ekstein beating Siphiwe Mnguni and laid a cross for Edward Manqele who failed to connect with the cross.

Platinum Stars Ndumiso Mabena capitalized on an error by Kaizer Chiefs defense in the 7th minute and took a shot with Itumeleng  Khune pulling a save to deny Mabena a goal. Eric Mathoho came to the rescue in the 12th minute after Mabena beat Khune only for Mathoho to clear the ball from an empty net. Kaizer Chiefs immediately attacked through a counter with William Twala providing a cross but Edmore Chirambadare didn’t connect well. Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere, attacked through the wing and laid a cross for Robert Ng’ambi shot to be blocked by Lorenzo Gordinho in the 16th minute.

Edward Manqele should have capitalized on a sloppy defense by Platinum Stars and laid a pass for Edmore to see his shot go wide.

Robert Ng’ambi shot in the 20th minute from outside the box put the visitors ahead. Platinum Stars started attacking and putting pressure on Amakhosi. The game tempo increased as both teams search for goals. Kaizer Chiefs got a corner in the 35th minute and Twala took an in swing that was cleared by Siphiwe Mnguni for a second corner. Ramahlwe Mphahele should have equalized for Chiefs but saw his chance go totally off the target. Kaizer Chiefs should have scored five minutes from break but Edmore’s header went straight into the Platinum Stars keepers hands. Amakhosi kept knocking and dominating possession and another chance wasted as William Twala’s shot was saved for a corner. Platinum Stars nearly scored their second goal but Itumeleng Khune saved the ball to keep the score at 1-0 before halftime.

Amakhosi came into the second half and substituted Edmore Chirambadare and brought in George Lebese who immediately made his presence felt as he won a free kick for Chiefs. Platinum Stars Ndumiso Mabena counter attack in the 53rd minuted could have resulted in a goal as Robert Ng’ambi missed a header with the defense able to clear. Kaizer Chiefs midfielder William Katsande header went off the post. Platinum Stars substituted Robert Ng’ambi for Thamsanqa Gwabeni before Chiefs substituted Edward Manqele for Benard Parker.Chiefs failed to capitalize as they failed to convert their chances. Kaizer Chiefs equalized through Hendricks Ekstein in the 71st minute when he found a lose ball and blasted it into the net to level matters.

Chiefs started playing and put pressure on Dikwena with the likes of George Lebese, William Katsande and Ekstein controlling the game. A shot by Gwabeni went straight into Itumeleng Khune’s hands. Luvo Mpeta was substituted for Tintswalo Tshabalala in the 79th minute due to injury.

The last chance of the game saw fell for Chiefs but a header by Parker went straight into the Platinum Stars goalkeepers hands. Both clubs searched and put pressure on each other every time they had the ball their chances were not fruitful as the game ended in a draw.
