AbsaPrem : Amazulu and Thanda Royal Zulu deal authorized
The PSL has confirmed that the proposed sale of Thanda Royal Zulu’s PSL status to AmaZulu has been approved
The Richards Bay outfit, Thanda Royal Zulu indicated that they were cash-strapped to keep the team afloat in the top ranks and they were looking to sell the club
It’s rumored that the deal was delayed since Amazulu didn’t want to sign Thanda Royal Zulu current players in their deal, but it believed that was resolved
The PSL issues a statement approving the deal
“The club formerly known as Thanda Royal Zulu will campaign in the Premier Division of the League under the name AmaZulu Football Club and be located in Durban,
Richards Bay Football Club will campaign in the National First Division and be located in Richards Bay” the statement read.
Amazulu failed to buy the then PSL status of Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2015 which eventually was bought by Cape Town City
After finishing two seasons in the NFD, having failed to gain promotion back to the PSL since being relegated at the end of the 2014/15 season. In the 2016/17 season, Amazulu finished position 5th
It’s believed that the city of uMhlathuze is against the deal since both them and Thanda have a three deal as well that the municipality has invested millions in making the team was it is today.
It will be interesting to see how Amazulu and uMhlathuze are going to resolve this matter
